MIAMI, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Two men pleaded guilty to posing as religious
leaders to obtain travel visas to Cuba and selling them to others for
profit, The Miami Herald said Thursday.

Victor Vazquez and David Margolis regularly flew back and forth to the
communist island taking others along for a fee.

The two defendants were said to have taken some 6,500 people to Cuba
over the last few years. The government estimated the two made about
$900,000 from the scheme, though a lawyer for Vazquez said the duo
pocketed at most $400,000 at no cost to the federal government.

Vazquez could face up to three years in prison for conspiring to defraud
the U.S. government. Margolis, convicted of charges of filing a false
government application, faces up to six months, The Herald reported.
